Steven M. Hinkson, Barrister & Solicitor

Criminal Defence Lawyer Since 1992

Mr. Hinkson’s practice is restricted to criminal law with a focus on trial litigation in the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice.

With over 30 years of experience, he has amassed a wealth of knowledge conducting jury and judge alone trials.

Mr. Hinkson obtained his honours B.A. at the University of Western Ontario in 1987. He subsequently earned his law degree at Osgoode Hall in Toronto, graduating in 1990. He was then called to the Bar of Ontario in 1992, after articling at the criminal law firm of Pinkofsky, Lockyer and Kwinter. Mr. Hinkson remained employed at the law firm as an associate until 1994 when he embarked on establishing his own firm.

In 1994, Mr. Hinkson established the firm Robinson, Hinkson which evolved into the law firm Hinkson, Sachak, McLeod and Barnwell. Always seeking new challenges, Mr. Hinkson established HinksonLaw in 2004.

Mr. Hinkson always feels it imperative to give the best defence possible to his clients, and also to prevent potential clients from entering the criminal justice system. In this regard, he has lectured, mentored, and spoken to youth on several occasions in an effort to discourage them from entering the court system. Furthermore, in public and private forums, he has been active in the community in an attempt to provide public awareness about legal issues involving criminal law.

Through lectures at public schools, community forums, high schools, universities, law schools, and the Law Society of Ontario, he has also encouraged minority students to pursue law as a career and has provided mentorship to others.

Mr. Hinkson is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, The Criminal Lawyers’ Association, the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers, and the Toronto Law Association.
